Joy with the Uber Driver

I went to Dallas, Texas last weekend for four reasons: 1) To visit the Dallas Texas Temple, 2) To run in the Dallas “Too Cold to Hold” Half-marathon, 3) To visit my cousin Lynette, whom I haven’t seen in about 30 years, and 4) To visit Dealey Plaza, where President John F. Kennedy was shot in 1963.

The round-trip airfare was only $100.52! Thank you, Spirit Airlines 🙂

My flight landed around midnight. I requested an Uber driver and whamo, there she was in about four minutes. Once in the car, I was asked the usual question about why I was there.

A great Uber driver!

I simply told the truth: I was there to visit one of our temples in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. That spawned into conversations about other temples I’ve visited. For about thirty minutes we talked about my adventures going to see temples, and, in this case, being able to run in a half-marathon at the same time.

It was a delightful way to spend some time talking about some of my adventures. She explained how she loves to do airport runs as an Uber driver because “…the people are more professional and upscale.” She was quick to point out she would never spend her nights driving people from the bar scenes.

She uses her Uber money for shopping money on Saturdays. She seems to love her driving experiences and the people she meets.

I told her about my blog, mormontempletrek.com, and invited her to check it out. I also asked if I could take her picture from the back seat, which she agreed to. I then told her she would be in my next blog post, which she is.

At the end of the ride, I gave her one of my business cards and an Articles of Faith card. It was very easy. And it was natural.

What a great church this is!
