JOY AT THE LOADING DOCK

You never know what’s going to happen at a loading dock.

A church organization recently asked us to remove a vending machine from their cafeteria.  Because it was still working, we put it up for sale on Craig’sList.

A wonderful guy from a Baptist church in Temple Hills, Maryland contacted us about it.  We had it checked out.  He and his friends came twice to pick it up–the first time the truck was too small.

In the course of working with him on this project, he eventually told me how much he appreciated how I had worked with him.  He was using the machine in a retirement home that had a connection with his church.

It’s Not Just About the Loading Dock

After helping him get this heavy machine loaded into his vehicle, he called me “Brother Alan”.  Then he thanked me for all of the help.  At that point I handed him one of our Articles of Faith cards.  Then I told him “…that’s what Mormons believe.”  He appreciated the card and accepted it without reservation.

It’s wonderful to have a new friend who knows what our beliefs are.  He also has a strong spiritual background to build upon.  I had a number of discussions with him on the phone.  Twice I met him at the church to help with the pickup.  It wasn’t until he called me “Brother Alan” that I had the impression to give him one of the cards.

Thank heavens I had the card with me in my truck!  Because of that, I was able to turn this into more than just a vending machine pickup!

I frequently experience missionary opportunities during business transactions.  When I sell, they buy.  It also happens with the gospel of Jesus Christ.  If you let people know a little bit about it, they just might bite.
