Joy at the Toll Booth

A Toll Booth Missionary Opportunity in 15 Seconds!

I pulled up to the toll booth on the Dulles Access road yesterday on my way to Herndon, Va.  I couldn’t help but notice a small picture of Jesus sitting in the window facing me as I pulled up.  The artwork looked Mormonish, so I paid my toll then asked the toll booth operator about the picture.  He said—with a smile–it was one that motivated him and meant a lot to him.

I was then impressed to pull out an Articles of Faith card and give it to him, particularly because it has a picture of Jesus on the front of it teaching the children.  I grabbed one of the two that I always carry in my wallet.

“I notice the picture of Jesus you have inside the booth,” I said as I stopped.  “That’s pretty cool.”  Next I gave him the card and said, “This is what Mormons believe,” as I showed him the back of the card.

“Thank you so much!” he replied.

Best visit to a toll booth I’ve ever had.

This experience just goes to show you how quickly the Lord can use you to share some goodness with a stranger.  I guess the average amount of time at a booth like this is about 15 seconds or so.  Hence, there is not a lot of time to talk!  In addition, the people behind you are anxious to get through the booth too, so you have to move things right along.

Life moves quickly these days.  Because of that, having a way to quickly share something important with people is critical.  We are all moving very quickly each day.  Our ability to interact with others needs to keep pace!

I am grateful for this opportunity on the Dulles Access Road.  I will always remember it!
